I am representing a respected family owned building contractor who specialise in high-end residential building projects and are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their business. They are renowned for delivering exceptional projects which range from large multi-million-pound country house restorations and new builds including bespoke new houses for private clients, through to listed building refurbishments, maintenance and landscaping works throughout the South of England.
The Role
This role is to assist the Senior Surveyor and members of the commercial department in managing all costs relating to the project, saving money where applicable but still maintaining quality of work. You will assist with managing the day to day running of the project in terms of valuations, forecasting, budgets, re-measures, claims, CVR's and managing the variation account.
Main Duties
- To keep a tight control of potentially high numbers of variations on site and assisting site managers and Contracts Manager in recording all variations, pricing them and accurately recording their effect on final accounts.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of monthly job cost analysis data.
- Attend and contribute to various meetings, such as pre-order meetings, project review meetings with construction team as well as external contractors.
- Complete on-site measurements and assess payments to contractors.
- Price customer extras and liaise with sales department as necessary.
- Analyse current methods and procedures and develop improved methods of working.
- Organise, order and manage subcontract orders, applications and assist with subcontract enquiries and management.
- Assist with calculation and preparation of all company valuations including final accounts.
- Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
- Liaison with Accounts Departments to ensure cash flow for forthcoming monthly payment certificates.
The Person
- Minimum 1 years experience working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
- HNC or Degree qualified.
- Good understanding of traditional building methods and products associated with the refurbishment of listed buildings and up-market period houses would be an advantage.
- Strong numeracy and financial management.
- Strong communication and listening skills, with good negotiation skills.
- Highly motivated to deliver quality developments.
- Ability to work on own as well as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.
- IT literate and good administration skills.
