PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am a dedicated, hard-working, self-motivated Quantity Surveyor with broad surveying experience and qualifications. I am an excellent negotiator and work well in teams. I have Directed my own businesses and have commercially run businesses for others. I managed my business and team from home, so I am fully equipped with and used to home office / remote working. I am using the time I have now to obtain CIOB chartered status which should be a short process, given my experience. On completing this I would be happy to obtain RICS chartership if required. I have a full driving license, car and can travel where and when required and I am immediately available.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Due to our pipeline of work being heavily reduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, Alcadi is closed for business and we are finalising accounts before closing its file. Alcadi was a long-standing Quantity Surveying business providing commercial roles for private individuals, trade companies, building contractors and other industry professionals such as Architects and Surveying firms. I partnered with Lee Darvill in 2019 and we built up to a team of four surveyors. The core work was pre contract documentation such as outline budget estimates, contractor tenders and detailed bills of quantities. We provided bespoke services to commercially support businesses to grow, such as subcontractor and building firms.

We had some 50 clients who might request anything from ¼ hour commercial administration up to a full bill of quantities or commercial management for a multi-million-pound scheme. I was at the forefront for lead generation and marketing and co-managed the team.

Nov 2012 –  Aug 2019               Director/Quantity Surveyor                   Mcmurray Consultants Ltd

McMurray Consultants was a small business providing commercial and management roles for larger construction firms, surveying firms, developers and private clients. I began the company as the sole practitioner but have scaled up and down to suit the needs of clients, as required. This company ceased trading when I began with Alcadi.

More recently I took up long term roles as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in major building firms such as SWH Build (Parent company Eurovia/Vinci), McCarthy & Stone and Morgan Sindall, working predominantly on commercial projects.

2017 – 2019: SWH (Building Contractor) – Vertical Extension to Existing Commercial Premises – £500k and New Build Nursery – £4.5m: I provided Senior Quantity Surveying for the above projects and assisted with lead generation.

2016 – 2017: Private Client – Refurbishment, extension and landscaping to an existing home – £500k: I provided Project management, Site Management, Commercial Management and Site Health and Safety.

2014 – 2016: McCarthy and Stone (Retirement Living Developers) – Poundbury, Swanage, Weymouth and Bembridge new build apartments – values all circa £9-14m: I provided Senior Quantity Surveying for several projects during a time of change for the company, where there had been a high turnover of commercial staff. This included cleaning up commercially distressed projects and achieving final accounts with subcontractors with multiple disputes.

2014 – 2015: Morgan Sindall (Building Contractor) – New Build Student Accommodation Blocks and Citrus Building Apartments in Bournemouth town centre – £10m & £11m: I provided support Quantity Surveying dealing with large subcontract final accounts in dispute.

2014 – 2017: Alcadi (Small Surveying firm): I provided Estimating and QS services.

2014 – 2016:  David Richard Practice (Building Surveying Firm): I provided PQS services for various projects including cost planning and Employer’s Agent.

2012 – 2014: Spencer Group (Civils Contractor), Development Company (Resi Build) & sister Civils Company (Rail) – Projects from £30k – £11m: Main project was Putney Station Redevelopment – £11m. I provided Senior Quantity Surveyor services for Putney Redevelopment and all commercial roles for the running of the partnering businesses. This helped take the rail business from £300k to £3m turnover with some 25 rail projects in central and greater London. I also assisted the development company in completing their first major residential developments.

Private Work

Privately I enjoy sourcing and completing build developments and investment opportunities in the property arena either privately or through joint venture. Recently I have redeveloped property in Ferndown, undertaking a new build, a refurbishment and providing rental property to the marketplace. I managed all works directly. I have also been involved in family build projects over the years, working with my dad to develop one off housing.
