Blaymires Recruitment is representing a leading offsite design and build contractor based near Bournemouth who is searching for a Freelance Quantity Surveyor. The company builds modern family homes for social housing providers through to large MoD projects, with contract values ranging from £1-20 million.

The Role

As a freelance Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for delivering a new build apartment block consisting of 32 modular units in Barking, East London. The project value is £3 million and is under a JCT form of contract.

The groundworks package is already in place, and you will oversee the installation of modular units and MEP services into the building ensuring the internal and external packages are completed.

This role would suit an experienced Quantity Surveyor who will be site based 1-2 days per week and then work from home or the office for the remainder of the week. The company will consider someone part-time who can work 3 days per week and the options of working outside IR35 will be considered.

Duties

• To be responsible for managing all costs, saving money where applicable but still maintaining quality of work.
• To keep a tight control of variations on site and assisting Site Managers and Contracts Manager in recording all variations, pricing them and accurately recording their effect on final accounts.
• To manage allocated projects, packages and subcontractors, calculation and preparation of all company valuations and final accounts.
• To prepare and present monthly job cost analysis data.
• To analyse current methods and procedures and develop improved methods of working.
• To organise, order and manage subcontract orders, applications and assist with subcontract enquiries and management.
• To assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
• To liaise with Accounts Departments to ensure cash flow for forthcoming monthly payment certificates.

The Person

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
• HNC or Degree qualified.
• New Build experience.
• Good knowledge of JCT forms of contracts.
• Good understanding of traditional building methods.
