Blaymires Recruitment is working with a specialist commercial contractor based in Southampton who is searching for a Building Surveyor to join the team.
The company operates as a principal contractor and undertakes a variety of commercial refurbishment projects for a wide range of clients including, Schools, Hospitals, Local Authority, MoD, Hotels and Retail with projects ranging from £100K to £5M.
The company is currently looking to employ an experienced building surveyor to work within their construction team. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills in a
challenging and rewarding environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Architects, Engineers, and Contractors to develop specifications and oversee construction projects.
- Evaluate and develop building designs, challenge design approaches to ensure they work and are best suited to the application – advising on defects, maintenance, and repair strategies.
- Provide expert guidance on planning permissions, building regulations and health and safety requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to provide clients with the most current advice.
Qualifications and key skills required
- Bachelor’s degree in building surveying or a related Design / Construction field.
- Membership with a recognized professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or equivalent).
- Proven experience as a Building Surveyor.
- Strong knowledge of building regulations, codes, and construction techniques.
- Previous experience working with both NEC & JCT suite of contracts.
- Previous experience in commercial fit out and refurbishment projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Proficient with AutoCAD / Vetorworks or equivalent package experience desirable.
- Good IT skills, including previous use with Microsoft Excel and Project.
- Strong technical knowledge.
- A commitment to continuous professional development.
