Blaymires Recruitment is representing a respected main contractor based in Chichester who is searching for an Estimator to join the business.
The company has been running for over 20 years and has built a reputation as a trustworthy and reliable award-winning building contractor who undertakes commercial projects as well as sensitive renovation of listed buildings, bespoke residential new-builds and extensions with project values ranging between £200K to £3M.
The company has plans to grow and is looking for a motivated Estimator or Senior Estimator who has commercial or high-end residential experience. This is a great opportunity to join a friendly and established business, who will offer a long-term career opportunity.
As Estimator you will be responsible for the production of competitive quotations for a wide range of construction projects from initial client meetings through to client negotiations and hand-over to the Contracts Team. You will establish what the client wants, research materials where necessary, obtain quotations from suppliers and sub-contractors and translate this into a package for the client.
Responsibilities of the Estimator:
- Create quantity take off based on tender drawings/documents
- Liaise with Consultants/Architects regarding ambiguities, contract work scope and seek clarifications
- Send Enquiries to sub-contractors and suppliers
- Analyse and compare quotations received and clarify exclusions/qualifications or discrepancies
- Complete tender on time and accurately
- Create draft programme of the works and a payment schedule if required
- Handover to Contracts Managers
- Negotiate discounts with the main sub-contractors
- Place P.O. and inform all sub-contractors of draft programme
- Visit site as and when required to monitor progress
- Prepare and agree payments applications/valuations – claim against value of work done for measured works so that payment is received on time to achieve a healthy cash-flow
- Prepare and compile variation claim documents
- Analyse and recommend sub-contract payment application based on actual progress and quote submitted during pre-contract stage
- Attend progress meetings and provide updates to client with projection of costs as required
Requirements of the Estimator:
- HNC in Construction or relevant Degree level qualification
- Have a good knowledge of high-end residential construction or commercial projects
- Good experience working with estimating software
- Have a good working knowledge MS Office – Intermediate level of Excel
- Ability to write clear and precise communications which might include detailed and complex figures, calculations, and specific building information
- Strong numeracy and financial management skills and the ability to learn construction IT packages
- Ability to complete take offs and produce detailed schedules of work when required
