Lead Designer – Modular Construction

Salary up to £55,000 + 25 Days Holiday + Pension + Hybrid Working
Blaymires Recruitment is representing a leading off-site design and build contractor who is searching for a Lead Designer to join the team.
The company is a high-performing, financially robust business with a proven track record in delivering modular building solutions. They have successfully delivered projects across the MoD, Residential and Commercial sectors with projects ranging from £1M to £30M.
They are looking for an experienced Design professional who can work on their own initiative from conception through to production and site design on modular buildings.
The company will consider applicants from either an Architectural Technician, Design Engineer / Designer or Design Manager background who have Construction, Residential or Structures experience.
Skills & Experience
- To be responsible for leading on the technological design of building projects, having an engineering background, and a good understanding of how buildings are constructed.
- With a good attention to detail, and an understanding of construction technologies with thorough knowledge of Building Regulations and other legislative requirements.
- Excellent visualisation and communication skills that encourage good relationships with colleagues, and other professionals.
Drawing Skills
- To produce detailed drawings, models, sections, and layouts for buildings in collaboration with Architects, Structural Engineers, MEP Consultants, and other scheme related specialists.
- Using Revit 3D Software to create a unified model that all disciplines and trades can use to complete their work.
- To support the design department in creating accurate Revit families for associated componentry incorporated within the modular standards that can be adopted on current and future schemes.
- Producing schedules, cutting lists and bills of materials for purchasing from the Revit Model, ensuring that these are aligned with original estimates for the scheme.
- Creating accurate & concise working and installation drawings for both factory and site operatives to interpret.
- To complete accurate installation and detail drawings for the Project Managers to deliver the project.
- Having the ability to work within both two and three-dimensional design parameters (AutoCAD, Revit.)
- Collaborating with external consultants, engineers and senior technicians to produce accurate 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Maintaining a good working knowledge of current technical regulations and future planned changes to legislation standards. (Building Regulations, SCI, NHBC, BREEAM, etc.).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Ideally Degree Level in a Construction, Architectural or Engineering related subject, however HNC/HND will be considered with the right experience and satisfactory employment history.
- Having had experience working in a busy Drawing Office or Architectural practice and been exposed to meeting the demands of designing for manufacture, and with a good understanding of the built environment.
- Experienced and proficient user of Design Software, ideally AutoCAD 3D Revit, ideally gained within a building or architectural environment.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, (CIOB, CIAT etc) would be beneficial.
- Experience of Volumetric MMC, particularly designing steel framed modular buildings would be a distinct advantage and having a knowledge of light steel construction highly desirable.
- 3D Revit Experience and working on a project within a BIM environment would be valuable.
- Site surveying experience would be beneficial but not essential.
